Juicing raw cannabis is one of the newest and perhaps the healthiest ways to ingest cannabis. Science is showing us that we can get even more of the medicinal benefits of weed when we use it completely raw. In fact, when cannabis is raw, it is a superfood. Read this article to learn how using raw cannabis can benefit your health.
It might not come as news to many cannabis enthusiasts that the herb they are used to grinding up and putting in a pipe is a superfood. Although we are used to being reminded that weed is to be dried and cured, there is hard science out there behind the reasons that raw cannabis is beneficial to your health. The truth is that cannabis is kind of like a vegetable, and it can be a welcomed addition to any green juice that you make at home.
Raw cannabis doesn’t refer to the dried buds that you purchase in a shop – so don’t go running out to a dispensary or coffeeshop in a hurry. What we are talking about here are the fresh, raw buds and leaves that you’re holding as soon as you’ve done picking. The fresh leaves and buds of the cannabis plant are said to have some of the strongest anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and cancer fighting properties. Cannabis is one of the only external sources we have for cannabinoids, and juicing it is one of the best ways to ingest this superfood.
The science behind raw cannabis
Heating up weed before using it changes its chemical structure, particularly in the case of the cannabinoid THC. In the process of decarboxylation or smoking, THC-A is converted to THC. This is the component of cannabis that is responsible for making you feel high. On the other hand, ingesting raw cannabis will not give the user the stoned effect, but will offer a multitude of health benefits. Dr. William Courtney, a dietician who specializes in raw cannabis says, “You are actually walking away from 99% of the benefits cannabis provides when you cook or smoke cannabis.”
Part of the problem is that when cannabis is heated and THC-A is converted to THC, the body is not able to tolerate as high a dose. This is where the healing powers of cannabis become compromised. When cannabis is ingested raw, the body is able to take in up to 50 times as much as when it is smoked. With the body able to absorb such a large quantity of cannabinoids from raw cannabis, this can effectively be the way to prevent illness. Sometimes smoking weed only assists with the symptoms. However, its juice has the ability to be more effective at curing and preventing illness because the body is able to ingest much more.
Two-way cellular communication
What makes cannabis such a good anti-inflammatory is that it encourages two-way communication between cells in the nervous system. Information moving in only one direction to the nerves is the biggest cause of inflammation in the human body. This circumstance usually causes an attack on the immune cells, and an imbalance in the body is not allowing the attack to retreat. Cannabinoids, as they are well known for restoring balance, come back to encourage a two-way communication. This reduces inflammation and gives the body an opportunity to heal.
The main function of the endocannabinoid system (the cannabinoid system that lives in the human body) is homeostasis, otherwise known as regulation. Its main function is for regulating the immune system, nervous system, and even goes so far as regulating bone function. It is usually the case that when something becomes imbalanced in the body, it is the endocannabinoid system that kicks into gear to restore the balance. The role that cannabis can play for the endocannabinoid system is by strengthening it and the two-way communication that should happen between systems, cells and organs. When this two-way communication is properly established, all the different parts of the body can talk to each other, and this strengthens the body’s ability to stay well.
How to juice cannabis
Juicing cannabis means that just about anybody can use it, because it’s a way to get all the health benefits without getting high. Even in the case of edibles, cannabis still must be heated, which means juicing it is the most natural and probably the most effective way to use cannabis.
You can use raw cannabis as often as you want – even multiple times in a day. Just like chia or hemp seeds, raw cannabis is a superfood that you can add to any of your salads, smoothies or juices. Whether you throw it in the blender or in the juicer, whether you mix it or have it on its own, it’s working for you. Just like a herb, you can even sprinkle fresh leaves on top of your dinner. Be aware that using weed this way (especially for juicing) requires much more plant material, so having your own garden makes it easier!
On which stage of the cancer do I need to take this canabi
Hello,
Thank you for your very informative information.
I do have a question however. When picking leaves can I just take off enough to juice each day? Will the plant tolerate leaves being picked and keep growing?
If not, can it be juiced and frozen in small lots?
Many thanks,
Lindy
Hi Lindy, as long as you don´t pick too many leaves at once this is not a problem. From a nutrition point of view juicing fresh is always best but freezing is certainly an option. Enjoy! Olivier
